Baby Trey's Story

Home

Well, it all started Thursday, June 24. I had contractions all day, but they were only 10 mins apart. I had always been told that when they are 5 mins apart, lasting for 1 min long, going for over and hour is when you need to go to the hospital. So I just dealt with it and went about my day. Went to bed, and woke up Friday, June 25 at 2:20 am with contractions. I started timing them and they were 5 mins apart!!! I waited it out for an hour... changing positions- standing, sitting, laying, switching side, walking around- but they didn't stop or slow down, so after an hour I woke Will up. He hung out with me for another hour. When I was still having them, he decided to call the hospital. They said to wait it out as long as we could at home. That I would be more comfortable there and to wait until they got more painful. So we went back to bed around 5 am. When we woke up, I was still having them every 5 mins, but they weren't any more painful or strong than they had been earlier. So, Will left for some meetings and in the mean time, my mom and Alyssa came over. We did some things around the house and around 2 pm the contractions started getting stronger.

Hospital

Will got home and at about 3 pm, we decided that we should just go to the hospital and have it checked out. When we got there, they hooked me up to the machines and sure enough I was having contractions every 3-5 mins apart. However, when she checked to see how dilated I was... surprise, surprise... I was still at a 1!!! So the nurse said that since I was having strong contractions so frequently, that they were going to leave me hooked up to the monitors for the next hour and then they would check me again. She said if I truly was in labor that I should progress to the next centimeter within the hour.... so in an hour she came back to check again, and guess what... STILL at a 1!!! So, they sent us home, and said come back when the contractions are unbearable, to where I couldn't breath through them or if my water broke.

Back Home

Will and I left and went to Panda Express for dinner, then picked up Hot Fudge Sundaes from McDonald's and a Redbox. Will said it would help keep my mind off of things. We got home and I actually fell asleep for about an hour (and little did I know how badly I was going to need that precious sleep) When I woke up I was still having contractions, except with each one my back was KILLING me! We made it through the movie. I changed positions about 500 times and tried everything I had read about to relieve back labor. We decided to go to sleep and see how things went.... except there was no sleeping for me. I ended up sitting in the shower with HOT water just hitting my back. By the time I got out of the shower, Will had fallen asleep. I laid down hoping to fall asleep.... but that didn't happen. Will woke up to me in excruciating pain, trying to change positions to get comfortable. At this point, Will looked at me and said "let's go, we are going to the hospital." I then started crying, and said I didn't want to go... I didn't want to get sent home again. So, instead he called the hospital to see if they had any suggestions to ease the pain. They said that all the things we had done were the things they would have suggested and that maybe my labor had progressed and that we should come in and get checked.

Back to the hospital

So we got in the car, bucket in hand, in case I puked... needless to say, we got there around 12:30 or 1 am Saturday morning. So by this time I had already been having contractions for almost 24 hours... We got in, go to triage, the nurse checks me... and tells me the best news ever "your are at a 3, and you are NOT going home!" Will called our parents and they started heading down. At this point I was ready for the pain to be done and I wanted an epidural- However, because of the intense pain my blood pressure was high, so they said we had to do blood work first. It took about an hour or so before they result came back and they were all good, so they said we could go ahead with the epidural. After about 3 pokes, they got the epidural in, and the edge was taken off the pain. I continued to progress with labor, and the nurse came in and broke my water, this is when things began to go down hill. As soon as she did this, Trey's heart rate dropped. They said that he must have been laying on the cord and pinching it off since there was no water in there to cushion it anymore. They tried moving me from side to side, but that didn't work, so they put internal monitors on his head and began something called irrigation. This is where they put fluid back into me to surround and cousin the cord. This helped, but with each contraction his heart rate would drop, but then go back up. Then all of the sudden around 6 am, the were 2 other nurses rushing into the room and all up in my business, trying to move and turn Trey (he was posterior-sunny side up- which is why I was having such baby back labor), but he was stuck and they couldn't get him to move. The next thing I knew was my nurse was rushing back into the room, handing Will scrubs, and said "put these on, the doctor is on her way to cut!" CUT? WHAT? Then they came over and said I would be having a C-section. They said that the last 2 contractions I had, Trey's heart rate dropped down to 70... not good. They said the cord was probably around his neck and that every time I had a contraction it was trying to push him down the birth canal and that then the cord was choking him. I was scared and just wanted him OUT as soon as possible- so a C-Section it would be. Will was really good and very supportive. He went and changed and walked next to me as they pushed me back to the OR. The doctor (who was not my doctor or the other doctor who is in his office who I thought would be delivering me if my doctor was gone) got there, they had me prepped, cut, and at 6:51 am the baby was out. It all happened so fast. It was such a relief to hear him cry. Tears started streaming down my face. I didn't even care that I was sitting there cut in half, as long as my baby was safe and sound. They had to cut the cord, just to get him out of me. The cord was in deed around his neck and was wrapped all around his body as well and was also lodged in me between my ribs and pelvis!!! The next thing I knew, Will was walking out with Trey and I was still strapped down being sewn back up- tears still streaming down my face while I was thinking of my baby!

Probably the longest 24 hours of my life- then the next ones went by so fast. We would just sit and stare at our beautiful boy, hold and cuddle and kiss him, and also had to share him a little with our family and friends that came to visit.

Would I do it again... ABSOLUTELY! I love my boy and am enjoying every moment I have with him!!!

Sorry for the long boring post... mostly just wrote so I could document for myself! :)

Big Belly

Wow... now that's a BIG belly. I am 39 weeks... and didn't think I would ever say that or get this far. I was expecting this cute baby to be here 2-3 weeks ago! These past few weeks have been a roller coaster or emotions. I was ready, prepared, scared, bored, anxious, sad, mad, happy, grateful.
After going into preterm labor, and still having contractions on the medicine and with how big the baby was looking, we thought for sure that I would not make it this far. We got all ready, baby's room, playpen, swing, stroller, car seat.... then nothing happened. Before I couldn't go out for more then 1-2 hours (on medicine) without having contractions. However, since going off the medicine, I have been out and about all and up and around all day everyday... but nothing is happening. Although I do feel much better, less groggy, tired, puffy.....
The first week going off the medicine was especially hard. I kept expecting something to happen, but then nothing did. This put me into kind of a funk. I was depressed and grouchy. Then by week 2, I had come to the realization that I am not in control. My Heavenly Father has a plan for me. I know that all things happen for a reason, maybe the baby needed more time, maybe I needed more time... maybe I just needed to learn patience. :) Now we are just playing the waiting game as we wait for little Trey to come to our family.
Last week at our doctors appointment we learn a few things....
1. I was barely dilated to a 1, which the doctor said was being generous... even though the previous 2 weeks he had been saying 1.
2. My doctor was going out of town (so he is out of town all week this week)!
3. I meet with my doctor the day before my due date, next Monday, if I haven't had the baby- because he is worried about the size of the baby getting too big, we will be discussion being induced. So we go from preterm labor and stopping contractions to having to induce them!!! This baby must be a stubborn one with his own time frame!
Each week I make the mistake of saying... I don't see how my belly could get any bigger.... I feel confident (since I really should only have 1 more week at the most) saying this now, but we decided to take some belly pictures to document the size of my massive belly.
Now no judging these... I was not ready, they were taken at 10 pm, and they are not professional!

My mom and Alyssa took the pictures! Thanks now I can always remember how big I got... not that I think I will EVER forget!!!
Hopefully the next post will be of a baby... and not my belly anymore!!! :)

36 Weeks... shower #2 and #3... Mother's day... baby's room

This is the post that never ends..... yes it goes on and on my friends.....

This is my GIANT self at 36 weeks... seriously... I don't think I could get any bigger! It seriously looks like I am trying to smuggle a watermelon around under my shirt!!! :) At my 36 week dr. apt. I was dilated to a 1 and 'soft'. I also stopped the medicine that I had been taking to stop the contractions. Of course, I feel better now, being off the meds than I did before. When I was on the medicine, I was having more contractions, or if I skipped a dose or was late taking it, I would start having regular contractions. Since being off, I have had contractions, but they haven't been regular. They have been more strong and I can feel them a lot more. This past weekend was pretty busy, and we were worried with going off the meds, that I might go into labor- But I made it through the week and weekend and now I have nothing holding me back- except for the fact that now I am not having contractions!!!
This is baby shower #2- Friends!!! YUMMY FOOD

Crepes Bar :)

Awesome sister.... and mom (don't know where she is at) who put everything together!

Baby Shower #3- Family

More YUMMY food
Cute Decorations!

And some cute girls- Dressed for the occasion!

This was kind of a crazy/stressful weekend. The showers were back to back. One on Saturday and one on Sunday. Not to mention Will went on a scout camp out that weekend! So I was figuring with our lock- I would go into labor again, since he was gone and we had so much going on... but I am still here and the baby is still inside! It was fun and great to see so much family and friends. Thanks to everyone who helped, came, and gives us love and support.... the fun presents were nice too! :)

Mother's Day

Will was so kind- and got me a gift certificate for a pedicure!!! I think he was tired of me asking him to rub my feet and complaining about my toenails needing to be painted! :) Thanks babe!

Baby's Room

Painting!
Alyssa's amazing tree
Will putting together the crib!

Finished product... well, kind of- the other side of the room has a book case and the dresser, but you can't see it in the picture!!!
Now all we need is a baby!!!!

32 weeks... baby shower... and HOSPITAL!!!

Well, here is my monthly picture. This baby is really growing. They say that in the last few weeks that the baby is supposed to gain 1/3 more growth to even doubling in weight!I am not quite sure where this baby thinks he is going to go! Sometimes I feel like I have to hold under my stomach to hold it up! I can't wait to hold my little boy in my arms for real... or can I?
These amazing ladies from work, threw me an awesome baby shower . It was so much fun and I was so surprised at how generous people are. Getting so many fun things for the baby and his room, motivated me to get his room cleaned out and ready for him to come. Danielle made this adorable monkey blanket with his name stitched onto it! (She made another one with his name in brown as well) Thanks!!!
The other second grade teachers (most of the ladies who were pictured above) all pitched in and got the crib! Thanks girls! Now Trey won't have to sleep with me for the rest of his life!

Now for the scary part. It all started Monday Morning... Will left out of town for work. Before he left we had joked about me going into labor while he was gone. He said she would get on the next flight home and pray that he would make it back in time and that I would forgive him. Well me JINXED (sp) ourselves. After work on Monday, I tutored some kids at school, then my mom and I went to Home Depot to pick up some new paint for the baby's room, then I had to run over to Micheal's for some other school things. But this time it was 8 o'clock at night and I was getting pretty exhausted. I had felt a few contractions while we were out, but figured I would rather hurry and get my errands done so that I didn't need to run any the rest of the week. Well by the time we got in the car. The contractions were becoming more consistent, and I was starting to panic. I went to my parents house with my mom and laid down. I finally stopped panicking enough to relax and fall asleep. Around 9:30 my phone rand and it started me awake. This is when I realized that I was still having contractions. My dad came in and gave me a father's blessing. I didn't know what to do. The week prior, I had had a few contractions and called the doctor. they said that if I had more than 6 in an hour and couldn't get them to stop by laying down and drinking fluids, that I needed to go to labor and delivery. Well, I knew I had had more than 6, but I didn't want to go without Will. After the blessing, I knew what I needed to do. So, my mom and I left for the hospital at about 10:30 pm. All along thinking that we would go, they would check them out, then give me something to stop them, and I would go back home. NOPE... we were wrong.
After arriving, they hooked my up to the monitor and realized that I was having contractions every 1 to 3 minutes. They first tried to give me this shot to stop the contractions.... bad idea. Well, it stopped the contractions, but my body had a reaction to it. My heart rate and pulse both pretty much doubled, my body got really hot and felt tingly all over, and I started to pass out! We had to just wait for the medicine to run it's course and for my heart rate to come back down, before we could try something else. After this, they gave me some pills. Those weren't working fast enough so they said that they were going to ADMIT me to the hospital and take me to a room. This was so scary and not having Will there made it even worse. We didn't know whether to get him a plane ticket home from Chicago or not. After admitting me they gave me a medicine to knock me out, thinking that if my whole body could relax the pills would have a greater effect and help my uterus relax as well. At about 2:30 am they started the medicine and I got to talk to Will. Well, not really talk, I don't know what I was saying because they had already put the knock out stuff in my IV. Luckily, this did help, and the contractions began to slow down. I woke up around 7 am to my dad, our home teacher, and another man from our ward who Will works with in Young Men's, all there to give me another blessing. I am so grateful for the priesthood ans worthy members who hold it. I think I fell back asleep until my doctor came in to see me. It was a relief to see him. I knew that they had been calling him all night and that he had been checking my monitors through the night as well. I don't know how OB doctors do it... getting calls all night or going in for a delivery in the middle of the night, then having to go into work the next day... Thank you Dr. Swainston! Well, he said Will was fine to stay till Wednesday, when his flight was scheduled to come home. He said that the contractions were due to a kidney/bladder infection and he started me on antibiotics. He had originally said that he wanted me to satay there Tuesday night too and that he would come in ands see me Wednesday morning to release me. Well all day Tuesday I hung out and had some fun visitors. Thanks mom, dad, Alyssa, Jessica, Bridget, Kelly, Michael and Jamie, the Scarlett's (Kari, Trent, Shantel), and Carina for coming by to visit! At about 8 pm Tuesday night the nurse came in and said that the doctor had called and that he had been watching my monitors and that I was good to go HOME!!!!! It was crazy to think of all the things that had happened in just 24 hours!!! I was really excited and relived. Will was too.... poor Will got no sleep, and then had to sit through meetings all day tired and wishing he was back at home.
Now, I have been stuck at home for the rest of the week. I have been going crazy. Thanks to the wonderful ladies I work with, they took care of everything for me. They took my class for the day, then got a sub for me and even did sub plans! Your ladies truly are amazing and I am so grateful to work with such awesome people.

This is a picture courtesy of my mom. You can tell I was really happy about it!!! She was great through the whole ordeal, and surprisingly calm. Which is an accomplishment in and of itself for my mom, if any of you know her. She stayed with me and kept me clam throughout the whole experience. One time she traded off with my dad and she went home to get a few things. She came back with a picture of Will and I ( as you can see) and some decorations for TREY (as you can also see)! She wanted me to feel comfortable and Trey to feel welcomed, should be decide to come early!!! :) Thanks mom again for all you did and still are doing for me!!! Love you!
Will is home and I am so glad... hopefully no more trips to the hospital until this baby is ready to come! I guess one good thing did come out of this adventure... we are now officially registered at the hospital (which we were supposed to do weeks ago)!

MONSTER BABY!

We have had an exciting week with baby... We went to a doctor's apt and the doctor came over and measured with that measuring tape thing, then walked over to the nurse to input the information into the computer, then he pause... He said, "How far along is she?" The nurse said, "30 weeks 2 days." So he came back over with the measuring tape and did it again, then turned around and said... "She's measuring at 34!" Then he turned to me and said, "Don't be making no MONSTER BABY on us!" All I was thinking was AAAAHHHHH! We go back in 2 weeks... maybe he'll change my due date!
Then last night, we went and had the 3D/4D ultrasound done that Will had gotten me for my birthday!!!! (Thanks babe, I loved it!) It was so cool, and makes things so much more real. We had had a long day and mama and baby were both pretty exhausted by the time we went for the ultrasound. Baby Trey slept the entire thing. He didn't want to move at all. It was still really fun, and we got a DVD of the entire ultrasound and a CD of all the pictures!!! I can't wait to see my cute little baby's face in REAL life!

Yes, that is is foot up by his head that he is holding onto! He is practicing his YOGA moves already!

We kept pushing and poking at him to get him to wake up or move, and this is what we got... uh oh.. an attitude already?

giving us a little smirk... and a few other facial expressions!

28 weeks and Easter!

Easter was a ton of fun this year, I can on;y imagine how much fun it will be to have the baby around next year! It was fun to play with Noah and Brieah and think that next year Baby Trey will be about their age!

Well, here I am at 28 weeks! I can't believe how fast the time has flown, and how fast my belly has too. I look back at pictures and seriously wonder what I was thinking when I "thought" I was showing. People probably thought I was some weirdo walking around rubbing my "tummy"... now at least it is sticking out so far they know that there is a reason. Except now, I just sit there feeling him move around and play all over inside me, and people will as me if everything is OK since I am just sitting there holding my stomach... I then feel stupid and just say "Oh he is just moving around." It is fun to feel him kick around and move, but I can't wait to just hold him in my arms! Since he has been moving around a lot, it has been exciting for Will to get to feel him more. Every morning, Will, will roll over and just stick his hands on my stomach.... waiting for him to move. He is going to be such a great dad! My Students at school also enjoy my growing belly. They will make comments like... "your stomach is getting bigger, "your baby must be really growing", and one of my favorites is when one of my boys told me "don't get mad, cause it's not good for the baby!" They are so cute!
Well... 'till next month... or unless something really exciting happens and I decided to write about it or post pictures! :)
