April... and a baby story!

2 days before baby came!

Dying Easter eggs, and the beginning of labor...

During egg dying I was having contractions.  I started to notice I has having more then usual, so I decided I better start timing them.  Sure enough they were coming 5 minutes apart, but they were bearable. We went home, and I decided I would go to bed, and that if the contractions were bad enough I would wake up.  I really thought that they would and that Trey would wake up as a big brother... what was I thinking?

Our last picture as a family of 3.

Well we went to bed, and woke up the next morning (with no baby, but still having contractions)  I went all Saturday, still having contractions 5 mins apart.   They weren't getting any closer, but they were getting stronger.  I was refusing to go to the hospital, since they weren't getting closer, because I figured they would just send me home (like they did with Trey)  We decided to go to Panda Express (we went there after they sent me home with Trey, and then my contractions really picked up.  So we thought it might work this time too.  Turns out it was a really bad idea, you'll see why later) After we ate,Will started getting worried, since now I had been having consistent contractions for almost 24 hours.  Let me back up and preface this whole labor story with the fact that Trey ended up being a c-section, but I was trying a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean).  Will really wanted me to go to the hospital to get checked at least, but I still refused.  So he called the dr. office and talked to the on call nurse, since it was Saturday evening, she advised us to go in.  She said I should probably get checked out, since I had been having contractions for so long, we didn't want it wearing down on the scar, causing more risk for uterine rupture.

We dropped Trey off at the Scarlett's and headed to the hospital about 7 pm.  We got there and I was only dilated to a 2, however my blood pressure was high, so they called my dr and he said to keep me and give me my epidural.  Around 7:45 pm I was admitted and we called our families and told them we were staying, but told everyone not to rush down, since I was only a 2- we figured it would be a long night and that we would probably have an Easter Sunday baby.  My parents, came right down though, because I really wanted to receive a blessing before my epidural.... I am so glad that they got there when they did.  Right after they got there, Will and my dad gave me a blessing, and then the nurses kicked my parents out to give me my epidural.  After the epidural, they wanted to put monitors on the baby's head to keep a close eye on him during labor.  However.... when they went to put the monitors on the baby, they realized that it wasn't the top of his head that they were feeling... it had bumps and a hole... the nurse called another nurse in to check, and she agreed.  Then they called the dr in.  He said, 'yep, that's a nose.  We need to go and get this baby out!"  They started shoving white clothes at will, and I was telling will where the camera was.  While trying to get dressed, will was trying to call his parents to tell them what was going on....

Needless to say, Baby Boy Scarlett was out by 10:16 pm (4/7/12).  I have discovered after 2 LONG labors that both ended up in c-sections (due to the baby) that my children are very strong willed and have their own plans, even when it comes to making their grand entrance.

From this picture you can see that when they went to get him out, his face was RIGHT there.  (It should have been the top of his head)  Instead of having his head bent forward toward his chest, he had it pulled back!  This was putting pressure on his neck and has making his heart rate drop.  It wasn't safe for him to go through the rest of labor and delivery, and especially with it being a VBAC we didn't want to take any chances.  I am just so glad that he is here and safe.

Since I ended up with a c-section, they usually tell you not to eat before surgery for like 8 hours.... but I had just eaten Panda Express.... Not A Good Idea! I kept throwing up after the surgery... :(

We celebrated Easter n the hospital, so this was Trey opening his Easter basket with daddy.

Trey meeting his baby brother

We finally decided on a name (when he was about 24 hours old)
Matthew Thomas Scarlett
Matthew is a family name on Will's side of the family.  Matthew Caldwell, He was an amazing man with great stories.  Thomas is from my family (my dad's middle name and my brother's name).  However, we hadn't officially decided on the name Matthew, until Sunday night, Will was looking up the meaning of names, and Matthew means 'gift from God'  with it being Easter, we thought it was fitting... one of the best gifts our Heavenly Father has given us.

He is such a smiley boy, so happy to meet his buddy Rylan!

We Sure love this little guy and are so grateful he is part of our family.

A little Trey update-  He ignored Matthew for the first few weeks... and even tried testing the waters and wanted to kick him. But for the most part he just drives his trucks around him like he isn't even there.  In recent days, he has become more gentle and acknowledging of him.   He likes to be a helper with the diapers, getting them and throwing dirty ones away, and getting his pacifier.
He turns 22 months tomorrow and has turned into such a big boy.  He sings his abc's counts up to 20 with a little bit of help.  Knows his shapes... his favorites are octagons, rhombus, and pentagons.  Everything is associated with a shape to him.  He is so fun and I love watching him learn, grow, and discover new things!

My Handsome boy getting a haircut!

Love those eyes...

Trey at 21 months... I can't really remember any distinct milestones... but he continued to work on his letters, numbers, shapes, and colors.  He LOVES nursery, and often thows fits through out sacrament meeting to go there!  He is very friendly and loves going to other's houses, grandparents, babysitters, friends.  Grandpa Brown taught him about smoke detectors, so he HAS to find them wherever we are!

Just found out Alyssa's baby was a boy and 10 lbs!!! So I began to pray that the little guy in my belly wasn't 10 lbs!

Eating green eggs and ham on St. Patrick's Day!

And green pancakes!

ok... so i got some pictures from my phone...

Trey at the UNLV games- He LOVES the fight song!

Playing in the backyard!

Learning to catch with daddy!

Being smart... he pointed to the jeans in the wave and said... 'pants wet?'

Ready for prayers!

Random... and NO pictures :)

I have had A LOT on my mind lately, and decided I should probably write it all down....

Trey- Today by baby is 20 months old! I feel like all of a sudden over night he changed into a BIG BOY!  I seriously feel like he went to bed Friday night and woke up Saturday all grown up! He woke up and played in his bed for a while, before I couldn't stand it any longer and went to get him to play with! :) Then he took a shower, when he got out- Will and I were getting ready and he was running around in the bathroom with us.  He said  'PEE PEE POTTY!' and walked himself over to the potty, sat down, and went all by himself!  I was SO proud of him! He then went with us to the UNLV basketball game, where it is usually such a task to get him to even stay in one area let alone sit down, He sat in his own seat and watched maybe 10 minutes of the game (all in about 30 second increment, but hey... I'll take what I can get!).  It was the first time I have ever seen him really sit and pay attention to what was happening on the court!  After the game we picked up dinner and came home. (SIDE NOTE- We had a BIG German Shepard day for a little over a year, so Trey NEVER got to go in our backyard, because the dog was out there and I was too paranoid to let him be around the dog.  Anyway, about 3 weeks ago we were able to find a new home for him, the dog- not Trey.) The weather has been so nice out, so we decided to eat outside, Trey played and played... in our dirt and rock, cause that's all that is back there for now!  But he loved it nonetheless. While out there, he loved digging in the rocks, and daddy even brought out a ball to play catch.  He looked so big out there playing.  He was listening to Will and following directions, as Will taught him how to catch the ball... 'ok hold out your arms, look at the ball, and... . catch!'  He would get so happy and excited when he actually did it!  The hugest smile would spread across his face, as he would turn around and look at me to see if I saw his accomplishment.  When he was thoroughly covered in dirt from head to toe, and after trying to EAT the rocks... we decided it was time to come in and take a bath.  After getting washed up, I decided he needed his hair cut... it drives me nuts when his hair grows over his ears and his collar of his shirts... I give those areas trims here and there, but I decided last night that he just needed a BUZZ ALL OVER.  After his hair cut, which always makes him look older, he got another bath to rinse off.  He then went right over to the rocking chair as sadi "read book' (That's part of his nightly routine, so I was impressed that he knew right what to do, however, he had some friends coming over to hang out- so we went downstairs instead.)  Our friends, Nick and Whitney and their little boy Brighton, came over to visit and play.  Lately, (like the last few months, Trey has been very possessive of his things and his favorite word seemed to be 'MINE!') but last night, I saw a new little boy in front of me playing with his little friend.  He was sharing and taking turns.  It was the best feeling as a mom to watch.  We have been working really hard these last few months, but it seemed like it was never going to change, then all of the sudden last night, all our hard work and efforts paid off. It was so rewarding to see him play and share with his little friend. We even let the boys stay up late to play, since they were playing so well together!  We were watching Wipeout (A show where people go through obstacle courses and usually are slipping and falling all over the place.  Trey thought it was the funniest show EVER!   He was cracking up the whole time!  After they left, we went up and read out book, sang a song, and didn't even hardly get to rock- because he fell asleep so fast- probably super tired from being such a BIG BOY all day! And that is how my baby boy turned into a Big boy over night! :) Luckily, he has kept it up today as well- he sat through sacrament meeting, played with his friend Ryder (shared books and toys and even his cheerios!)
2O month update/brag session: He is getting really good at his letters and amazes me every day (his babysitters must be doing something with him- beside feeding, changing, and playing with him, cause I know that Will and I cannot take credit for all the things that he has learned!)  He knows and recognized a lot of letters, today during church he pointed to a W and said it, that was a new one that I had never seen him do before! He is now not only counting, but also recognizing the numbers as well- he knows up to 5 pretty good.  He recognizes all the basic colors (black, white, blue, yellow, red, green, orange, purple, and pink) and uses them when describing objects.  He now will say what color something is when he sees it.  Driving around is so much fun to hear him jabbering in the backseat about all the things he sees out the window... the red truck, the white truck, the big truck, the baby or little truck, the green trees, Nama's house, papa's truck, Nicki's house, the helicopter or airplane he sees or hears fly by... At nighttime, while we sing songs, he makes requests now (I used to have my little order of set songs that I would sing, but not anymore...) He also now sings along more than just filling in the words if you stop, he has started to sing with you.  Probably one of the most precious things to hear your child sing songs about the Savior... and YankeeDoodle too! :) He is also understanding A LOT more.  He will answer questions that aren't yes/no and make decisions when given choices.  He seems to go in cycles/phases with his sleeping.  When he was first born he HAD to be rocked to sleep and gently laid down so that he would wake up.  At about 7 months, we let him cry it out and then after that he just wanted to be put in his bed to go to sleep on his own.  At around 12 months, he would play in his bed/roll around until he fell asleep (we would watch him on the video monitor and just crack up)  Then all a sudden he started wanting to be rocked again.  BUT... just today, before his nap, we went to rock and he said 'bed' so I asked him if he wanted to go get in his bed or rock and he chose bed again- He crawled down off my lap, walked to his room, and I put him in his bed- then he sat laid there and talked himself to sleep ( I sat and listened to him jabber about- chicken nuggets, up up up down down down, papa, mater, any many other random things before he drifted off to sleep! One last thing he is obsessed with right now is smoke detectors.  My dad showed him one one day, and now he has to find them on the ceilings of where ever we are.  Today after church, we walked around the whole building finding EVERY single one!  He even ran into the Bishop's office to look for one!
Baby update: We had another dr apt this past week (at the time I was 33w 2d) But I was measuring at 35 weeks... looks like we have another big baby on our hands.  Once again the baby was ALL over the place making ti difficult to find his heartbeat, the dr said it looks like we will have a soccer player on our hands! :)  It this apt, we discussed our birth possibilities.  Before I got pregnant again, I really wanted to try a vbac instead of a repeat c-section.  However, when I got pregnant and realized I would be due in the middle of the school year, I thought it would be much easier to just go ahead with the c-section.  Then my mind has been going back and forth for the last 34 weeks!  As of the moment right now, I think we are going to go with the vbac... but of course I am due right around spring break time and my dr will be out of town over spring break! Super convenient... right?  No... after he missed Trey;s birth by about 6 hours he told me that he hardly misses any births, well look like he will be missing BOTH of mine!  If he is out of town and I do go into labor, I will just go in for the repeat c-section.  But if he is here, and I go into labor, we are going to try for the vbac.... that's as of right now- could change my mind next week, maybe tomorrow, or even in the next 15 mins....
Sorry for the long boring blog, with no pictures... just wanted to write down the things going on in my head, so that maybe I could clear my mind and pick out a name for this baby boy or make a plan of action to get his room and things ready....

Big Belly and Valentine's Day

Here is my BIG BELLY at 31 weeks!

I'm hoping that this baby is at least as big as Trey was, cause I feel HUGE!

Baby Update: I am now 32 1/2 weeks- I was so excited to pass the 32 week mark.  32 weeks is when I went into early labor with Trey and onto bedrest... so I was feeling pretty good about that! However, I am feeling tired and achey the last few days (more than I remember being with Trey, But maybe that's cause at this point, I was laying around in bed all day long)
I can't even count the number of times a day that I hear things like...."How much longer do you have?" "When are you due?" "You look like you are going to pop any day!"
This Little(big?) buy is STILL nameless, but seems to be VERY active! He is always moving all over the place! He is up very high (as you can see from the pictures) and I feel like I can't straighten my back or else I squish (and break my ribs), so I have to stand with my back arched/swayed (more than it normally is) making my ever growing back side look even bigger too! Ahhhhhh.....

Trey update: I feel like a slacker mom- I feel like I should document more of his achievements and milestones-
18 Months- Talking ALL the time and putting together little 2-3 word phrases, recognizing a few letters (t, k, and a few others from his name) loves his bedtime routine (bath, read books, sing primary songs, and rock to sleep) Counts to 2! :) LOVES his cars and trains! He LOVES Cars and Mater! Recognizes anything UNLV and says 'REBELS!' Knows and understand and loves the word MINE! Tried doing TIMEOUT- Didn't work...
19 Months- Recognizes the letters in his name. Counts up to 5- Has 1 to 1 correspondence (counting objects) up to 2 and is OBSESSED with having to have 2 of everything! He is constantly saying two'vum (two of them) He even adds the s to the end of words when he has more than 1 of something! (proud mommy/teacher!) He also understands and shows ownership (mommy's water, trey's blankey) He still loves his bedtime routine with mommy or daddy.  He now helps sing the songs and will fill in the word if we stop. Recognizes some colors (blue, red, green, orange) Worked on TIMEOUT- and he will now sit there until he is ready to say sorry for whatever he did (usually hitting)
Now (19 1/2 months) - Knows all the letters in his name (T R E Y and O) Knows his colors (blue, red, green, orange, black, pink, purple) Counts to 10 (with a little help) Counts to 5 really good by himself :)  Has 1 to 1 correspondence up to 3.  He still loves bedtime routine, but now is starting to read the books with us too (he has probably just memorized the lines) He will fill in the blank if you stop on a word.  Talks all the time and is speaking in more logical phrases and adding in adjectives. (red truck fall down) Puts himself in TIMEOUT and asks to go as soon as he swats or hits at someone. Then he sits there and comes out by himself and comes over to say sorry.  :)

I took some pictures of Trey real quick to make a special valentine for his Grandparents... He looked so stinkin' cute how could I not share them?

And here's his handprint valentine that he made for his babysitter!

We had a pretty low-key valentine's day.... The UNLV Rebels had a game, and since I was up all night making valentine's for my students and for grandparents, I didn't do anthing for will. (Of course Will, snet me flowers to work, then I came home to sweet cards and treats from him and Trey) I was hoping that watching the game would be a great preseent for him- except they LOST... so not only did his wife let him down, so did his Rebels! I felt so bad.... So the next day, I went and bought a bunch of 50% off valentine's day stuff for him. :)
